Manager Danny Cowley was delighted that the Huddersfield Town supporters were able to see a win on home soil.

That was the Terriers’ first win at the John Smith’s Stadium since February 2019 and Cowley was thankful that the supporters stuck with the team during that long period.

“We were really pleased for the supporters. We had 1,000 followers on Tuesday night to see the win.

“It’s brilliant for them to be able to experience the win, I know it’s been a long time coming.

“It was really important for us to put a performance on for them. It was nice to walk round and clap the fans for their contribution to the win.

“They’re an unbelievable group of supporters; really well educated and conditional in their support. You can’t ask anymore from them.”

Town scored three goals during the second half and Danny was really pleased with the performance his team put in.

“It was certainly better. We were pleased with how we started the game, the first 15 minutes, I thought it was the best start we’ve had since we’ve been here. Then probably two teams playing a similar system cancelled each other out.

“At half-time we came out with a renewed energy, I was really pleased with the fight and the determination the players showed because it’s not easy to play three games in quick succession at this level.

“The subs came on and gave us that impetus and we were able to find the all important first goal. Brilliant play by Juninho Bacuna and a great finish by Karlan Grant and that gave us a really good place in the game.”

Following Karlan Grant’s opener, Town went from strength-to-strength and scored two more goals in less than 20 minutes.

The confidence shown by the players really impressed Town’s Manager.

“We were really pleased once we got that first goal with the confidence that we showed.

“Then we found the second one quite quickly and that gave us a really good place in the game. For the next 10 to 15 minutes we looked a good team.

“I thought we could’ve seen the game out better. They committed a lot of players forward, which you’d expect at that stage of the game. I thought we could’ve controlled that better by keeping the ball in their half. That’s something we can learn from.

“It’s good to score three goals and even better to keep back to back clean sheets. There were some really good performances today.”
