Huddersfield Town Manager Danny Cowley is excited for his first Yorkshire derby this weekend as the Terriers take on Barnsley.

With Town’s mid-week Sky Bet Championship game taking place on Wednesday, it gave Danny and Nicky Cowley the opportunity to watch the Tykes live in action.

When speaking to the press, the Terriers’ Manager admitted how valuable that experience was.

“It’s our first Yorkshire derby so we are looking forward to that!

“I think they are a team now under new stewardship and Adam Murray is someone that we know well.

“He’s done a very, very good job since he’s been in. They’ve had two positive results, played against Swansea and West Brom.

“We went to West Brom on Tuesday night and they played a back five. They did it a few times last year but hadn’t up until this point last season.

“They were aggressive, front-foot, fought for everything, really hard working, they went 2-0 up deservedly against West Brom and carried real threat on the counter-attack all night.

“Defensively they played a high line, were aggressive, and we were really impressed with them.

“We are expecting a rejuvenated Barnsley, a team fighting for every ball and we know we need to match them in work ethic and endeavour if we are going to get on the right side of a result.”

Town go into this game in a good run of form, something that Danny Cowley is very happy with.

“We are pleased that we are five unbeaten, especially considering the run the Club had been on prior to that; it’s taken a lot of grit, reliance and determination and we are proud of the qualities we’ve shown through this period.

“I think we’ve seen a number of different performances. I think a big positive from Wednesday night was that we didn’t play well but managed to accumulate a point and we weren’t beaten. Normally when you see teams at the bottom, when they don’t play well, they invariably lose, so the fact we didn’t was a real positive.

“We know that keeping clean sheets and being difficult to beat will give us a much better chance of winning football matches.”

Danny Cowley was without Kamil Grabara on Wednesday, who missed out through illness.

He gave the latest on the Liverpool FC loanee and detailed the fitness of the other absentees.

“Kamil (Grabara) had a sickness bug, which has been in the group for the last two weeks. We’ve done our best to avoid too many catching it, but it’s not been ideal by any stretch of the imagination.

“Kamil has done some light training today, so we will see how he recovers off the back of that and will make a call. Young Ryan Schofield did superbly when on Wednesday, which has given us some food for thought.

“Pritch has done some light training today, which is a positive. We will monitor him overnight, so as long as there’s adverse effects, he’ll be good to go.

“Terence Kongolo is on the grass. We are hopefully he will be involved tomorrow. It’ll be a big benefit if that could happen.

“We wouldn’t worry about throwing him into the deep end if we needed to.”
