WORTHY PLEASED WITH PERFORMANCE DESPITE CUP DEFEAT

8 November 2019

Town’s Under-18s fall to defeat against Burton Albion

- Cup fate still to be decided for the Young Terriers
- Worthington: “I don’t think the score tells the story of the game”
- Promising attacking football on display from Town’s Under-18s

Huddersfield Town’s Under-18s fell to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Burton Albion in their final Youth Alliance Cup group match, despite being in command for the majority of the tie.

The Young Terriers controlled proceedings, although spent the majority of the fixture chasing a one goal deficit, having conceded from a set piece in the 23rd minute.

Town’s youngsters carved out a few great chances, with Ben Midgley and Gulutte Zunda forcing the Burton ‘keeper into saves either side of Myles Bright thundering a strike onto the crossbar from close range.

Town were unlucky not to equalise, and in the final moments of the match Burton doubled their advantage with a counter-attack to see out the match.

With the main objective in the cup being to get the result there was natural disappointment for 'Worthy' on the day, however the Under-18 Coach was more than happy with the way his side handled themselves against Burton.

“Some of the play today was outstanding, to be honest”, he said. “The attacking play, the transitions; I thought it was of the highest order.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t quite have that final finishing touch, and that’s the only disappointment really.

“There are always things to learn and improve on, it is just disappointing that this is a cup game and we’ve lost it - I don’t think the score tells the story of the game really.

“When you are dominating games, you have got to be ruthless, and for all the excellent play we saw today, the learning curve is you’ve got to stick the ball in the back of the net.”

The Young Terriers will be aiming to bounce back from this result on Tuesday 12 November 2019, when they next play, as an Under-17 side welcomes Blackburn Rovers to PPG Canalside in the Clarets Cup.

The match will kick-off at 1pm and supporters can attend. Please note that there's very limited parking at PPG Canalside!
