“We want to make it about us as much as we can” said Tommy Smith speaking ahead of Huddersfield Town’s Premier League game against Manchester United.

This match is the Terriers’ final home game of the 2018/19 Premier League campaign as the Red Devils come to the John Smith’s Stadium.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s side is still battling for a Champions League spot, but Town’s defender is keen to take the focus off them to switch it on to the Terriers.

“We aren’t focused on what the opposition do in terms of form or if they aren’t playing as well as they can do; it’s down to us. We are at home. We want to make it about us as much as we can.

“Hopefully we will make them worry about us. We need to try and cause them problems. If they are on their game then they’re on their game, if they’re not they’re not, we will try and make it about us on Sunday.

“We have to show them respect but get amongst them. We need to make it uncomfortable for them. We are all looking forward to it.”

When the two sides met at the John Smith’s Stadium in the Premier League last year, Town came away with three points after a fantastic battling performance.

Tommy took his mind back to that game and explained the emotions at the final whistle.

“It was a massive result and performance from us last season in the Premier League.

“Both the goals came relatively quickly in the first half, back-to-back, it was just an amazing feeling.

“You wait all your life to play in the Premier League against these types of teams, Man Utd, in front of your own crowd. It was an amazing game, an amazing feeling and when the full-time whistle went there was a lot of emotion.

“I’m sure Sunday will be the same, it’s different circumstances this year because we are in a position now where we are going to be in the Championship next season.

“But it’s still a great game to be a part of, still a great game for the fans to be there and cheer us on and hopefully we will get another positive result.”

Ahead of Sunday’s game, over 200 cyclists will do a lap of honour around the John Smith’s Stadium after completing Pedal for Pounds 10 with Made By Cooper, ‘The Chairman’s Choice’.

The 323-mile ride is raising money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, the Town Foundation, Ruddi’s Retreat and Kirkwood Hospice.

The defender praised the supporters, the Chairman and the Club for putting events like this on.

“I’ve been here a long-time and I’ve seen the work and effort that goes into the kind of stuff.

“It’s led by the Chairman, I know him on a personal level, I know what he’s done at this Football Club and it’s all expected.

“I know that sounds terrible, but I expect it now because I know what kind of people are here and work at this Football Club; the effort, attitude and desire to want to do things for others.

“It’s a special club in that respect and the Chairman is a big figure in that. All credit to him, the people who back him with that and I wish them all the very best in Antwerp.”
