Young midfielder earns caps for England’s Under-18s

- Matty Daly makes fourth appearances for England’s Under-18s
- Daly handed appearances by Head Coach Neil Dewsnip
- Young Lions lose on penalties in the Slovakia Cup Final

Young Huddersfield Town midfielder Matty Daly continues to feature for England’s Under-18s side.

The 18-year-old was handed his first call up by Head Coach Neil Dewsnip and started in the Young Lions’ first game of the Slovakia Cup.

Matty started in the number eight role – a more creative role in the middle of midfield – as the youngsters beat Russia 1-0 at the FC ViOn Zlaté Moravce Stadium.

The youngster then earned his second cap in the Young Lions’ 2-2 draw with tournament hosts Slovakia on Tuesday 21 May 2019 after coming on as a substitute.

In the final group game, England’s Under-18s beat Mexico 2-0, which meant the Young Lions topped the Group and qualified for the Slovakia Cup Final.

After a 1-1 draw in normal time, Neil Dewsnip’s side were beaten on penalties by Spain in the final with the Young Terrier featuring for the last 30 minutes.

The caps for the creative midfielder mark an excellent end to the 2018/19 campaign for him, after he made his Town and Premier League debut against Watford in April.

Matty, who hails from Stockport, joined Huddersfield Town at Under-15 level and has also gone on to play for England’s Under-17s making 10 appearances and scoring one goal.
