The biggest ever PPG Cup is set to take place this weekend with over 1,200 junior players from local clubs set to take part in Huddersfield Town’s annual tournament!

The 2019 PPG Cup will host 126 teams between the Under-6 and Under-12 age groups, with over 1,200 players expected to play in this year’s event.

Junior Clubs from all over West Yorkshire and beyond will come together at this year’s host venue, the Stafflex Arena (Storthes Hall Park, Storthes Hall Lane, Huddersfield, HD8 0WA), the home of Shelley Community Football Club, due to the redevelopment at PPG Canalside.

The six-a-side tournament will take place across the weekend, with age groups up to Under-9s competing on the Saturday (15 June) before Under-10s and above will feature on Sunday (16 June) as they attempt to win the Club’s coveted junior trophy that will be presented by a special Huddersfield Town guest!

As well as the PPG Cup action, there will also be a penalty shootout competition with a chance to win four tickets to Huddersfield Town’s first home game of the 2019/20 Sky Bet Championship season.

This is just one of several activities also available across the weekend at the Stafflex Arena, with refreshments also available from the kitchen and the BBQ.

Huddersfield Town’s Partnership Executive, Jon MacDonald, commented:

“Everyone at Huddersfield Town is incredibly excited for the PPG Cup this weekend.

“It’s absolutely magnificent to have so many youngsters taking part and it shows how committed the Club is to get young people playing football.

“To attract teams from all over West Yorkshire and further afield is a real achievement and I’m sure there will be some good, competitive football this weekend!

"The weather hasn't been great recently, but I can confirm that the PPG Cup is still on and the pitches are in perfect condition!"

The weekend’s action will be the latest instalment of the ever-growing PPG Cup; a huge tournament for junior football clubs that is held in association with Club partner PPG.

Birstall-based PPG Architectural Coatings UK & Ireland, manufacturer of leading trade paint brands Johnstone’s Trade and Leyland Trade, is lending its support to the PPG Cup as part of its sponsorship of Huddersfield Town’s PPG Canalside training facility on Leeds Road.
