In the run up to Huddersfield Town’s 2019/20 season in the Sky Bet Championship, htafc.com will take a look at some of the most memorable fixtures against teams the Terriers will face – today we’re throwing it back to 2004 and our 4-0 win against Hull City at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The Terriers recorded their joint-biggest win of the 2004/05 League 1 campaign with a thumping victory against the Tigers.

Town powered into the lead inside the opening 10 minutes as Pawel Abbott’s half-volley crashed in off the bar to open the scoring in style at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The 13,542 in attendance were treated to some early-Autumn sunshine and nearly a second goal in quick succession after Andy Booth’s looping header also found the woodwork.

Town continued to dominate the early exchanges and were rewarded with a second goal, having put together another good attacking move. Former Club Captain Rob Edwards was on the end of it, firing a half-volley past the goalkeeper to put Town 2-0 up with only 14 minutes on the clock.

Three points from the game would have meant that Peter Jackson’s side would climb into the top half of the League 1 table after seven games of the campaign and Chris Brandon made sure of that on 74 minutes. The midfielder displayed a first-time strike to finish off Junior Mendes’ through-ball.

The game wasn’t done there, however, with Town ‘keeper Ian Gray having to dive to his right to stop Danny Allsopp’s penalty, following a Town handball in the box, as Hull City looked to salvage a consolation late on.

Gray preserved the clean sheet and there was time for one more goal at the other end as Andy Booth’s deflected strike found the net to round off a perfect day at the office for the Terriers.
