In the run up to Huddersfield Town’s 2019/20 season in the Sky Bet Championship, htafc.com are taking a look back at some of the most memorable fixtures against teams the Terriers will face in the upcoming season – today we’re looking back at Town’s last gasp win against Queens Park Rangers in April 2001.

Town overcame fellow Division One strugglers QPR in the penultimate home game of the 2000/01 season at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The two sides came into the game knowing that the three points were vital to their respective survival pushes.

In-front of 12,846 fans at the John Smith’s Stadium, Lou Macari’s Terriers’ went into a first-half lead courtesy of Dean Gorré.

The visiting Rs hit back shortly before half-time through Andy Thomson’s lob over Town goalkeeper Nico Vaesen.

With the teams still level and the clock ticking into stoppage time at the end of the match, Delroy Facey was in the right place at the right time to find the net with a rebound after Andy Booth’s original effort was saved, putting Town back ahead with little time remaining.

Referee Anthony Bates blew the final whistle shortly after meaning Macari’s side picked up a huge three points towards their survival challenge and condemned QPR to relegation to the third tier of English football in the process.
