In the run up to Huddersfield Town’s 2019/20 season in the Sky Bet Championship, htafc.com are taking a look back at some of the most memorable fixtures against teams the Terriers will face in the upcoming season – this time we’re looking back at our 3-2 win over Preston North End from our 2016/17 Sky Bet Championship promotion-winning campaign.

Collin Quaner’s late goal stretched Town’s lead over the fellow Play-Off teams to four points with five games left to play.

The Terriers came into the Good Friday encounter hoping to strengthen their late-season Play-Off credentials but fell behind on 23 minutes after Aiden McGeady’s strike found the top corner of the net to put the visitors ahead.

Just before half-time, the majority of the 21,254 inside the John Smith’s Stadium had something to cheer about as Elias Kachunga notched in his 13th goal of the 2016/17 campaign to draw Town level.

David Wagner’s side then went into a deserved lead with 20 minutes left on the clock after Jack Payne headed in a deflected cross from the right at the back post.

The advantage was soon wiped out however as Jordan Hugill was also on target with his head at the other end to level the scores in the closing stages.

But it was Town who took all three points deep into injury time. A foul off the ball awarded Aaron Mooy with a chance to win it from the spot but his penalty was saved before Collin Quaner placed the rebound into the net to spark more wild scenes at the John Smith’s Stadium.
