In the run up to Huddersfield Town’s 2019/20 season in the Sky Bet Championship, htafc.com are taking a look back at some of the most memorable fixtures against teams the Terriers will face in the upcoming season – today’s memorable match is the Terriers 3-1 victory over Swansea City.

Back in August 2005 Huddersfield Town faced a top form Swansea City at what was then known as the Galpharm Stadium.

The Swans had a top start to their 2005/06 campaign with two comfortable wins over Tranmere Rovers and Colchester United. Their first loss was to Town on 13 August 2005, after goals from Andy Booth, Pawel Abbott and Danny Schofield.

Boothy scored the first of the three in the 27th minute with a header.

Swansea’s Lee Trundle got one back five minutes later scoring in the 32nd minute from the spot, but the scores did not remain level for long.

Abbott took the Terriers back into the lead just minutes before half-time with a nicely finessed volley, leaving the score 2-1 at half time.

The second half got off to a heated start with City pushing hard to put pressure on Town’s defence.

The tempers came to a head in the 67th minute after Swansea’s Kristian O’Leary elbowed Jon Worthington and received a red card.

Now down to 10 men, Swansea struggled to keep up their defence which gave Schofield the perfect opportunity to seal the win with the final goal of the match.

However, O’Leary wasn’t the only player to be sent off as Izzy Iriekpen was given his marching orders late in the game.
