In the run up to Huddersfield Town’s 2019/20 season in the Sky Bet Championship, htafc.com are taking a look back at some of the most memorable fixtures against teams the Terriers will face in the upcoming season – today we look back at our 1-0 win at the DW Stadium in the 2016/17 season.

Nahki Wells’ late strike stretched Town’s unbeaten run at the time to seven matches, following a 1-0 at the DW Stadium.

The Terriers came into the game following a delightful festive period that saw Town go unbeaten throughout the month of December, with the last loss coming against Wigan in the reverse fixture.

Wigan, on the other hand, hadn’t won since that clash at the John Smith’s Stadium and were looking for three points to aid their battle against the drop.

After a half of few chances, Wigan’s Yanic Wildschut flashed wide of the target after cutting in from the left in the minutes following the interval.

Town then capitalised and took the best chance of the game in the closing stages. Elias Kachunga drove forward before firing a powerful effort towards Jussi Jääskeläinen who couldn’t hold on to it, allowing Nahki Wells to find the bottom corner with the rebound.

The Terriers successfully held the lead for the remaining ten minutes to come away with from the DW Stadium with a hard-earned win and all three points to kick-off the calendar year.

The victory also kept Town comfortably in the Sky Bet Championship play-off places, as they occupied fourth spot after 25 games.
