TRANSFER: TOMMY SMITH JOINS STOKE CITY

Defender departs after seven years at Huddersfield Town

Tommy Smith has today completed a permanent transfer to Sky Bet Championship side Stoke City.

The terms of the 27-year-old’s transfer will remain undisclosed.

Tommy joined Huddersfield Town from Manchester City in 2012 and went on to play a major role for the Club both on and off the pitch.

After impressing for the Club’s Under-21 side, Tommy made his First Team debut in September 2013 starting in a League Cup match at Hull City, before making his Sky Bet Championship debut just under a month later.

By the following campaign, Tommy had established himself as a First Team regular, before hitting new heights in the Club’s 2016/17 promotion season. The right-back played scored four goals in 42 appearances and was named in the EFL Team of the Year.

Ahead of the Club’s first ever Premier League season, Tommy Smith was named as Huddersfield Town’s Captain and went on to make 39 top-flight appearances.

During his seven-year spell at Huddersfield Town, the 27-year-old made 200 appearances for the Club and scored five goals.

Huddersfield Town Head Coach Jan Siewert commented:

“First of all, I would like to thank Tommy for everything he has done for this Football Club and for me since I was appointed.

“Everyone at the Club is sad to see him leave, but this was a move that Tommy wanted to pursue. Once the deal was correct, we weren’t going to stand in his way.

“I would like to wish Tommy all the best for the future.”
