Young Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien believes the match against Montpellier HSC was the perfect test before the season kicks off against Derby County.
The Terriers drew 1-1 with the French top-flight side after Karlan Grant’s second half equaliser.
When speaking after the game, Lewis admitted how difficult the game was and how that’ll help going into the Club’s Sky Bet Championship opener.
“Montpellier are a great team, pass the ball and had a different formation to what we are used to, so we had to work that out on the pitch.
“This game helped to get us up to the tempo to what we hope the Championship season is going to be like.
“We hope teams will play like that, so this was a good test to get us ready for it.”
After an impressive loan spell in Sky Bet League 1 with Bradford City, the 20-year-old detailed how hard he’s been working to get into the Club’s First Team plans.
“I’ve worked extremely hard during the off-season and since we came in for the pre-season.
“I’ve just been willing to take everything in and learn. Everything Jan Siewert has said I’ve tried to take onto the pitch and impress.”
In Jan Siewert’s system, the Terriers operate with three midfielders all operating in a different way.
Lewis explained the difference between them and explained how having that versatility will help his game.
“All the roles are a bit different, sometimes it’s hard to get used to playing a 6/8 and then moving into the 10 because its more attacking.
“The 6/8 your box-to-box in and out and then in the 6 you keep the ball rotating from side to side.
“It’s good that I’ve learnt each and every position and it’s good to have a part in the game.
“It’s a good attribute to have to rotate in between and hopefully I have shown that I can do that.”
That was Town’s final match of pre-season and the youngster has been delighted with how the build up to the new campaign has gone.
“It’s been an excellent pre-season, we’ve gone unbeaten and every game has been a different test for us.
“I think we can start the season really well and push forward.”
