Huddersfield Town striker Steve Mounié admits the squad are delighted to bounce back from the Boxing Day loss with a 2-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Danny Graham had put the visitors ahead early on, but goals from Jon Gorenc Stanković and Steve Mounié ensured Town’s first come-from-behind victory since April 2017.

“It was a great win. After the disappointment at Middlesbrough, we wanted to rectify everything, and we did very well with that win.

“We showed some good effort, some good aggression on the pitch and we showed good fight as well. It’s a great win for us.”

Steve’s winning goal, a rifled effort into the top corner from around 25 yards out, is one that the Benin international, and Town fans alike, will be looking back on for some time to come.

“It’s definitely one of the best that’s why I was so happy about it – I think I will watch it 100 times!

“Usually I think to give the ball to the side and go to the box and wait for the cross. This time, I was like ‘go for yourself and try to shoot’ and I got the reward.

“It’s always great to celebrate in-front of the fans. They always give me a warm welcome at the John Smith’s Stadium. The only thing I want when I play on this pitch is to score a goal and hear my song.”

The victory was the Club’s first come-from-behind win in all competitions since April 2017 when the Terriers defeated Preston North End 3-2 at the John Smith’s Stadium. Steve suggests it shows something about the squad’s current mentality.

“We showed that even if we concede a goal, we’re capable of winning a game at the end. That’s the most important thing we have to keep doing this year.

“That shows the mindset and spirit change in the dressing room and on the pitch as well.”

With the festive set of fixtures now complete, Steve and the Town squad are now looking ahead to another game fast approaching with the visit of Stoke City to the John Smith’s Stadium on New Year’s Day.

“The games are coming quick, so we have to recover very quickly and be ready for the next game because the games are coming fast.”
