Huddersfield Town forward Josh Koroma was eager to take his chance after making his first league start of the season against Leeds United.

The youngster’s Sky Bet Championship debut was quickly followed up by a start against Charlton Athletic just three days later.

The 21-year-old explained how eager he was to prove himself in blue and white stripes.

“As soon as I found out I was starting I knew I had to take my chance, but first and foremost do well for the team and benefit the team, then the rewards will come.

“Obviously I’m a winger and like to get on the ball, but against a team like Leeds sometimes you don’t see the ball because of the quality they have, so I was focusing on defending well, making sure I tracked my man, so we didn’t concede. It’s just little things like that, so I can help them team.”

Since the Cowleys joined the Club, Josh has worked hard with them putting in extra sessions to develop his own game.

He explained what he’s been focusing on in training.

“I had to get fitter because I wasn’t playing games, so you lose match fitness.

“They’ve been working a lot with me on my left-foot going down the outside, so I feel like I’m improving that every day because I’m always working on that with them.

“Tactically, they go through my clips, show me how I can defend better to then benefit the team.

“You can’t replicate match fitness no matter how much running you do on a training pitch. So, playing in games with the Elite Development Team helped a lot with my fitness side of things.

“Because the Managers are working so hard for you, you want to work hard for them. They’re always telling me how to improve and what I’ve done well, which is nice.”

Town face Wigan Athletic this weekend at the DW Stadium and the forward explained what he expects from them.

“I think firstly in this league, it doesn’t matter where you are in the table anyone can beat anyone.

“We expect them to be fast, strong, good on the counter. They’ve got some good players especially going forward.

“We want to go there, put in a performance and definitely try and get something from the game.”
