Huddersfield Town defender Danny Simpson has returned to full fitness after suffering a hip injury.

The 32-year-old returned to full action last weekend against Wigan Athletic after a fairly lengthy spell on the side-lines.

Danny went into detail about how he’s now feeling physically and explained what it was like to be pack on the pitch last Saturday.

“It was five weeks from the Preston game to my start against Wigan; it was frustrating because I’d played a lot of games, started to put a good run together, but I think no pre-season contributed to the injury. We had a lot of games in short succession. It was frustrating not to be out there with the lads.

“It was great to come back and be involved against Charlton at the end of the game. I didn’t have many sessions before it.

“The Wigan game for me was key; I needed that 90 minutes in my legs. I didn’t feel anywhere near myself, but it was about getting out there and getting the feeling into my legs.

“I felt really good today and this week has been a good week of training. Hopefully I’ll be back to myself tomorrow.”

Danny will be looking to make consecutive starts again this weekend against Nottingham Forest, who sit eighth in the Sky Bet Championship table just a point outside the Play-Off spots.

The experienced defender gave his thoughts on Forest.

“They’ve got good players and they’re a good team. There’s an expectation on them most seasons, but more this season.

“We know the full-backs give them a lot of width. Crosses, they get a lot of goals from those areas. I know Sammy Ameobi from my Newcastle days and Yohan Benalouane, I think he’s been injured.

“Off the back of their result last week the fans, the team, the Manager won’t be happy, I think it was 4-0.

“We are expecting a reaction from them, they will be coming to our place to make amends and we will have to expect that and be ready from the first whistle.”

SCARF GAME VS NOTTINGHAM FOREST

17 December 2019

This weekend’s match is Town’s official #ScarfGame! Danny explained how a sea of blue and white scarves could lift the players on Saturday.

“They create a better atmosphere for everyone, the fans and the players, coming out and seeing that.

“Sometimes there’s moments when you’re coming out to play a game and for whatever reason you don’t feel right, but that can give you a lift.

“It might only be 5%, but that 5% can take your performance from maybe a six to a seven or eight, which then helps the team.

“It’s English football and that’s what I like to see. Hopefully everyone will bring their scarves and create the best atmosphere that they can.”
