Huddersfield Town Manager Danny Cowley explained how positive the atmosphere is in the dressing room ahead of this weekend’s game against Wigan Athletic.

The Terriers come into the game off the back of a dramatic win over Charlton Athletic.

Danny detailed what that win has done to the spirit in the Town camp.

“It’s been pretty good. We had a long journey back from Huddersfield on Tuesday night and got back around 4am. The coach was in good spirits.

“After the game I was doing some media and we were going from the pitch to the media suite at Charlton and we passed the changing room. You could hear the boys singing the Matty Daly song, so the changing room and the staff and the supporters enjoyed a very important victory for us.

“It was a fantastic victory for us when you consider the amount of things going against us.

“The togetherness, spirit, determination and resilience were up there. We created our own word excuseless. There were certainly no excuses.

“We said before the game it doesn’t matter what they throw at us, we will dig deep, fight hard for each other and find a way. We were really determined to do that.

“We were really proud at the final whistle.”

Wigan Athletic sit below Town in the Sky Bet Championship table but come into the game off the back of a good draw against second-placed WBA.

Town’s Manager went to watch them on Wednesday evening and gave his thoughts on the Latics.

“Nicky and I went to Wigan last night and watched them play West Brom. Huge pitch, vertically really long.

“They made seven changes for that game, so they freshened their group up.

“They played a 4-2-3-1, they possessed the ball, they asked West Brom an awful lot of questions, they carried real threat in wide areas and looked good on the counter attack.

“We understand they’re a good team. If you look at the season this far, they’ve just got on the wrong side of close games.

“They haven’t got value for their performances, but we are under no illusions of how hard it’ll be against Wigan.”

It’s been highly documented that Town’s First Team squad has been hampered through injuries in recent weeks.

Danny Cowley gave the latest on the fitness of his squad.

“Danny (Simpson) came through on Tuesday night really well. He wouldn’t have been considered if we didn’t have the situation with Demeaco Duhaney, he would’ve used extra time of the training pitch.

“When Danny’s in the squad the team seems to do pretty well. Hopefully he will bring those omens with him on Saturday.

“Alex Pritchard has had a further injection in his knee. He’s the type of player who relies on his sharpness.

“We’ve got a great medical team and been able to get specialist advice. We are hoping this will take the edge away from the pain.

“DD did a light session with us yesterday and then trained today.

“Collin Quaner is making good process and is back on the grass. I like Collin, he’s always smiling.

“He’s not far away, which will be a plus for us. He’s improving by the day.”

“Lewis O’Brien, Fraizer Campbell and Jaden Brown are progressing really well.

“We are confident we will have one or two back. Trevoh Chalobah is back available. We’re really pleased to have him back in group.”
