Huddersfield Town Head Coach Jan Siewert spoke of his excitement to get the season started ahead of Monday’s Sky Bet Championship game against Derby County.

His side faces Derby County at home on Monday night at the John Smith’s Stadium and he explained to the press just how excited he is to get out there and get the season started.

“I am very excited for the Derby County game. When I think of our supporters, our last pre-season game had a good atmosphere.

“I still have that picture in my mind too of walking out at Southampton and seeing that wall of yellow.

“I want to bring a smile back to every player and every supporter. I want our supporters to come with a smile and to go with us through thick and thin. I know without saying it that they will.

“The togetherness of this club is really special. I know what this Club means to the supporters and I’m proud to be here.”

Town’s Sky Bet Championship campaign kicks off against Derby County, who appointed Phillip Cocu as the Club’s new Manager in the summer.

Jan Siewert details what he expects from the Rams, whilst explaining that his main focus is the performance of his players.

“I know that a different manager will bring a different style. I had a look at Phillip Cocu’s play style, but we don’t want to focus too much on what they do.

“For me, it’s more important to focus on what we can do rather than what they can do. We have strengths, and we need to show them.

“It’s about us showing our quality against them, not the other way around.”

A lot of attention and focus has been drawn on young striker Karlan Grant after his impressive form since joining the Club in January.

Town’s Head Coach, however, was keen to move the attention of the striker and onto his whole squad.

“I’m pretty sure that Karlan Grant will improve. He’s a striker that still has to learn, and he knows that.

“It’s not all on his shoulders though, we have good possibilities to score other goals. I’m confident, because we’re all there to help him and to score.

“In pre-season it wasn’t just Karlan Grant that scored!”

Town come into this game off-the-back of a tough but impressive pre-season, remaining unbeaten and spending a large amount of time on the grass understanding Jan Siewert’s style of play.

Town’s Head Coach admitted how proud he is of his players for their efforts ahead of the campaign.

“It’s been a very tough, intense summer. We went through everything and looked at all the details.

“We had a really good pre-season with some good results and the following games will show where we are.

“We put in a lot of hard work in a physical way and a mental way. The players completely believed in what we were doing.

“We are focused on what we are doing. The workload the players put in really impressed me!

“A big credit to how my players went through this pre-season with me; it felt like we were really together.”
