Club Captain Christopher Schindler explained how eager he is for Town to get their Sky Bet Championship season underway against Derby County.
The Terriers’ opening game is against the Rams at the John Smith’s Stadium, live in front of the Sky Sports cameras.
After working hard throughout pre-season, Schindy explained how the players are focused on putting that into practice against Derby County.
“I think pre-season has gone well. We worked on a lot of stuff, tried to bring this winning mentality back and we used the time properly to work on our fitness, our tactical things, which the manager wants to see from us, and on our match plan for Derby.
“I’m happy to have them at home, so we can show what we are about. It’s a big test to see how competitive we are.
“We’ve had enough pre-season and want to get going now to play under competitive circumstances.”
As well as working hard, there has been a big focus on changing the mindset of the players over the summer as they aim to get the winning mentality back in the dressing room.
Town’s Captain explained what the mood is like in the camp now and how he believes it’ll continue to grow.
“We can feel now, in the pre-season that there is a new spirit in the team.
“We know it’s a situation with no pressure, but still we have to use this time to bond, get to know each other and get a better understanding of each other on and off the pitch.
“I think in the games and in the training sessions we can feel that something is growing, we have to prove that in the competitive games.
“The real bonding will start when we win games together, tight games, important games, dirty wins; that’s the last step of being a really good squad that can achieve the biggest goals.
“It’s too early to say we are a great team, this still has to grow, but we are on a good way. We can take a lot out of it and we have to use that on the pitch to continue to grow.”
During the games in pre-season Town have had a large following and Schindy explained how much of an impact that can have on them.
“It’s great to see that they are creating this excitement for the new season.
“When we remember the year when we got promoted, they played a massive part because we made our home Stadium a fortress.
“We collected a lot of points there, a lot of tight points where we decided the game in the last minutes. This support and atmosphere plays a big part.
“We have to do this again, make it uncomfortable for teams to come to our Stadium, with our supporters on our back with us, powering everything that’s in our bodies as we try to win games.”
