Huddersfield Town striker Karlan Grant is keen to put the Club’s disappointing start to the season right this weekend.

The Terriers welcome Reading to the John Smith’s Stadium as they continue to search for their first win of the 2019/20 campaign.

Karlan, the spearhead of Town’s attack, has scored three goals in four games this season.

He explained how scoring in pre-season gave him extra confidence coming into the new campaign.

“I’m happy from a personal point of view, but it would be better to have the points. It’s a good start but hopefully I can continue.

“Nothing changes, in friendlies, competitive games, you always want to score, so having that confidence from pre-season helped me.”

Since coming in as Caretaker Head Coach, Mark Hudson has changed the Club’s style of play.

He has shifted the formation to 4-2-3-1, which still sees Karlan operating in a lone-striker role, but puts a number of other players closer to him.

The young striker explained how he’s found playing upfront on his own and how the new system will suit him.

“I’m playing as a lone striker more, more than I ever have, so my hold up play is getting better.

“We’ve been limited with chances, so I haven’t been able to get in-behind defences like I want to, but I’m improving every day.

“Mark Hudson’s style is what I want to do, I’m a pressing forward and I want to put teams on the back foot. He’s given the license to do that and obviously by playing a 10 behind me to create more chances for me will help me too.

“Pritch is an unbelievable player, everyone knows that. Against Cardiff maybe I was dropping a bit too deep and he was deeper, it’s new, and only the start of us playing so close together. As we play together more, the more we will get that understanding.”

Town come into the game off the back of a 2-1 defeat to Cardiff City and Karlan was keen to stress how important it is for the Terriers to turn their form around quickly.

“We need to create our own luck. When it isn’t going for you, you get unlucky. It’s a common theme when you’re winning it goes for you and when you aren’t it doesn’t.

“We’ve been letting in quite a few late goals, in three games three late goals, we need to go back to basics, defend as a team and be hard to breakdown.

“We tried to play football and that’s the team that we are. We struggled with that the games prior to Cardiff, but we want to win games; it’s black and white.

“We had a rough start, but games come thick and fast and we need to put it right. Hopefully we can make a start on that on Saturday.”
