17-year-old midfielder Josh Austerfield has signed his first professional contract with Huddersfield Town!

The teenager has been awarded for his commitment, progression and performances just one year into his two-year scholarship with the Town Academy.

Josh, who is pictured above with Academy Manager Leigh Bromby, has signed a professional contract running until 30 June 2021, with the Club having the option of a further year’s extension.

Austerfield started the 2018/19 season as part of the Under-17 squad, but soon progressed to play most of his football for Dean Whitehead’s Under-19 side.

A central midfielder, Josh is learning to play as a deep-lying number six, an all-action number eight and an attack-minded number 10 under the tutelage of the Academy coaches.

Huddersfield Town Academy Manager Leigh Bromby commented:

“Signing your first professional contract is among the biggest moments in your career and Josh totally deserves his day today.

“He ticks all of the boxes that we look for in our young footballers; he’s a diligent trainer who is desperate to improve and he’s got clear talent.

“Obviously Josh still has lots to learn, but we’re all really excited to see his progression continue.”
