Huddersfield Town winger Adama Diakhaby is relishing the challenge of turning hard work on the training ground to results on the pitch.
The Terriers travel to Kenilworth Road to face Luton on Saturday as they look to secure their first three-points of the 2019/20 season.
In the build-up to the game, Caretaker Head Coach Mark Hudson spoke about developing a winning mentality at the Club.
Adama, who has started three of Town’s five Sky Bet Championship fixtures, believes that everyone in the dressing room are in high spirits and ready to return to winning ways.
“Everybody is here to win, the mentality is positive, we just want to win together and stick together. The only option is to win.
“The manager changed a lot of things in training, for me the mentality and spirit are positive at the moment.”
Town were beaten by Reading in their last fixture, but Hudson said in his pre-match press conference that he saw plenty of positives from Saturday’s defeat.
Since taking charge of the Club, Hudson has been opting for a more possession-based, high-pressure style of play. Diakhaby has adapted well to the Head Coach’s methods and stated he enjoys playing in the new system.
“We missed some opportunities, but in general we played very good. We have to look forward and play like that in the next game.
“The high pressure without the ball and with the ball; it’s good for me and my teammates. You take pleasure when you play like that.”
Adama has impressed with his work on the ball in recent games, but the 22-year-old believes there is plenty more to come from himself.
“After training, sometimes I like to stay with two or three other players for some shooting sessions. For assists, we do one-two shoot, it’s very good to practice.
“I have to work more for that, I have to assist my partners and score goals for my team; it’s my job. Not just to create space or make a difference, it’s not enough.”
Town face Luton this weekend, and the former French U21 International believes it will be a tough test for the team.
“It’s going to be a good challenge. They won against Cardiff 3-0 away. It’s going to be a hard, difficult game, but we are ready for that.
“We have a lot of talent in the team to cause problems against Luton. We are focused, we know it’s always a pleasure when you win before the international break.”
Despite the difficult start to the season, Adama believes that the Town fans have been fantastic so far and spoke about how meaningful their support is to the players.
“Since I signed here, the John Smith’s Stadium is always full. The fans are unbelievable, it’s important for a player when you feel the support of the fans.
“I like that they push you, the last game against Reading they were unbelievable, but we didn’t win. It’s important for the team to win for them.”
