Tear on target as Young Terriers defeated

Mark Hudson’s Under-19 side played some good football in stages but were condemned to a 3-1 defeat to National League side Harrogate Town.
Mark Hudson made just one alteration to the side that drew with Rochdale earlier in the week as Olly Dyson was introduced in place of Demeaco Duhaney, as forward Kit Elliott got proceedings underway at Harrogate’s CNG Stadium on a cool October evening.
Town started brightly and found themselves in the lead inside the opening five minutes. Isaac Marriott moved the ball across the midfield to right-back Ben Jackson who played a terrific ball to Olly Dyson down the right flank.
Dyson got to the byline and showed some terrific strength to lose his marker with a neat change of direction before squaring the ball to last Season’s Academy Player of the Year, Dom Tear who finished with a placed effort.

It was a good start from Mark Hudson’s side who were sticking to their game plan, playing the ball out of defence and working it into some smart positions in the final third.
Thewlis had already had a goal disallowed for offside earlier in the game and this time saw his run in behind rewarded with the Harrogate equaliser as he broke through the Town defensive line and squared it to one of the trialists to fire in the equaliser.
Harrogate very nearly got their second soon after from a set-piece as Town were caught holding a high defensive line from the free-kick and were nearly caught out by a trialist, following an initial knock down header across goal.
The Harrogate attack was posing a good physical challenge for the Town defence up against the tall figure of former Carlisle and Falkirk frontman Mark Beck.
He would create the next chance for Harrogate as he flicked the ball on and send Agnew one-on-one, but his effort was denied by a strong save from Luke Mewitt in the Town goal.
The third goal of the game did arrive shortly just before half-time as Haswell showed some good persistence to chase down a lost cause and hook the ball back to another one of the Harrogate trialists to head in at the near post.
It was much the same in the early stages of the second-half as Luke Mewitt was forced into another save to deny Mark Beck’s header diving low to his left.
Town started to rally and create a couple of chance thanks to some good play in possession. The most dangerous of which saw the ball worked towards Harry Spratt on the left who in turn crossed to Kit Elliott at the far post who wasn’t able to make clean contact on the stretch.
Aaron Rowe was next to go close for Town as Hudson’s side continued to grow into the game. Rowe picked up the ball on the edge of the area and fired from range, but his effort rebounded off his own man and went out for a goal kick.
Mark Beck was then to get Harrogate’s third and final goal of the evening to seal the win as he headed home a looped free-kick from the left.
