A tale of two headers at Turf Moor as Town and Burnley shared the spoils yet again in the top-flight.

Both clubs couldn't be separated last season with both fixtures finishing in entertaining goalless stalemates; nothing of the sort on a pleasant early October afternoon, as Christopher Schindler cancelled out Sam Vokes' opener to earn a point.

Rajiv van La Parra in for the injured Terence Kongolo was the only change made by David Wagner in east Lancashire, with Ramadan Sobhi, Tommy Smith, Danny Williams and Abdelhamid Sabiri joining the Dutchman on the sidelines.

A positive start by the men in Blue and White on both ends of the scale. Chris Löwe's second cross in a matter of minutes was turned away by Lowton stemming from powerful and clever play to drive away from markers by the re-instated Rajiv van La Parra.

Clever play from a Burnley perspective saw the first real chance come to fruition. Johann Berg Guðmundsson's mazy run came to a premature halt but fell to the feet of Matt Lowton who in turn delivered a peach of a delivery for the presence of Sam Vokes at the far-post.

The Welsh striker, looking to add to his tally for the season having scored in last weekend's win at Cardiff, had positioned himself well between a combination of Zanka and Erik Durm only to head straight into the gracious arms of Jonas Lössl.

If last season's encounters were anything to go by then the terraces were in for a treat despite the lack of goals. A number Town chances came and went, firstly as Aaron Mooy's floated delivery across the face was hesitantly scrambled behind by Tarkowski as van La Parra lurked, ahead of the Australian seeing a volley blocked out of harm’s way.

Jonathan Hogg - skippering the Terriers against former boss Sean Dyche whom he played under in the colours of Watford - proceeded to blast over from the edge of the area in a generous amount of space whilst responding to Lowton's headed clearance.

Town had definitely carried on where they off from the Spurs clash. The press was intense, and the hosts looked increasingly tentative whilst playing out from the back. Only a magnificent James Tarkowski last-ditch block on the slide denied Laurent Depoitre from finishing in the area after Aaron Mooy had managed to deliver having nipped in to dispossess Ben Mee deep in Clarets' territory.

Once again, a failure to convert one of the key early chances would prove costly as Burnley's aerial prowess brought about the game's opening goal.

Vokes had already provided a warning as to his threat, and the striker did in-fact nod Dyche's men ahead from Guðmundsson's right-wing cross, climbing above Christopher Schindler to expertly guide his cushioned header into Jonas Lössl's far corner.

Harsh on the Terriers whose performance had possibly more than warranted a lead for themselves, finding the home side somewhat sloppy in possession but a highly organised unit in-behind the ball.

Patience was a virtue as the Clarets looked to frustrate a Terriers side intent on taking the game to their hosts from over the Pennines. A neat move concluded with Rajiv van La Parra curling wide Alex Pritchard's return on a one-two.

Depoitre's luck just wasn't in. The Belgian could only watch another chance go begging wide of the target albeit after Tarkowski deflected the ball into his path, before Philip Billing used another patch of generous space to fire over into the home support.

As half-time approached it was David Wagner's outfit that had made pretty much all the running following that Vokes opener. Depoitre had another shot blocked this time by Ben Mee; that clinical edge just lacked in a period where one piece of quality had been decisive.

A succession of Terrier corners came to nothing as the second 45 began to take shape just how the first had drawn to a close. The best chance arriving courtesy of one the set-pieces fell kindly to Joe Hart after Philip Billing couldn't make an adequate connection to meet Chris Löwe's second phase delivery.

Deliveries continued; this time Erik Durm's out-swinger was indeed met by Mooy, but the industrious Aussie flicked over the bar.

Mooy forced Hart into a smart stop from range instigating from more patient guile in the hunt for an equaliser. Town was really trying to turn the screw; a double introduction of Steve Mounié and Isaac Mbenza the next roll of the dice from the Head Coach.

In the face of Town's persistence, Burnley came mightily close to a second through Vokes. A cultured flick to divert Aaron Lennon's initial shot was kept out by Jonas Lössl, who had to be sharp to meet the effort's quick change of direction from nestling in the back of the net.

But instead of it being the home side who doubled their advantage, it was a thoroughly deserved equaliser in the shape of Christopher Schindler. The impressive Schindy latched onto compatriot Chris Löwe's angled cross to head home the 65th minute leveller - and a first ever Premier League goal - to send the 2,400 supporters from Kirklees into delirium.

The leveller, in truth, had been a fair reflection of the statistics, and a frantic five-minute spell nearly saw the Terriers bag a second after Isaac Mbenza raced away, but as had been a key theme throughout, Tarkowski took up a decent defensive stance to block the eventual tame effort from the recently called-up Belgian Under-21 International.

The tension was becoming palpable as Town pressed for that elusive first win of the season. Steve Mounié's downward header was cleared and Hogg's speculative half-volley found the back of home man of the match Tarkowski.

Eight added-on minutes were cagey, and Chris Wood thought he'd a free shot on goal only to be denied by the linesman's flag.

That rounded off another excellently positively display and another Premier League point on the board, as action returns in a fortnight where Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool are the visitors to HD1 (Saturday 20 October, 5:30pm).
