Huddersfield Town Head Coach David Wagner gave the latest fitness update on his squad ahead of this weekend’s Premier League game against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Terriers had six players away on international duty, all of which have no returned to PPG Canalside, whilst the rest of the squad have come back from the week-long training camp in Marbella.
Town’s Head Coach gave the latest on the players returning from international duty.
“The last one was Aaron, who came back last night (Wednesday 21 November 2018), I saw him this morning after he did some recovery work.
“Everyone is healthy after international duty and some came back very successful.
“Zanka is back, even though he’s suspended, but he played his part in Denmark getting promoted, we had some goal scorers too with Steve (Mounié) for Benin, Hamid (Sabiri) scored, and Isaac (Mbenza) scored, so everyone is back and healthy.”
Wagner continued to go into detail about how the Marbella Training Camp will have helped the group.
“The trip was fine, everybody is healthy, which is the most important thing.
“I think it helped us again, to come together as a group – and if I speak about the group, I speak about the players, the backroom staff, the partners of the backroom staff and the players, the children – this is the third time we’ve brought all the families with us to the Training Camp.
“It was a good time we spent together, we were able to train and do what we wanted to do, but we were able to have family time together as well; this was exactly what we needed. Hopefully we can take some positive out of it.”
Town come into this game after picking up four points from the last two Premier League games and the Head Coach revealed what another positive result would do for the squad mentality.
“To be totally honest the bottom three at the minute isn’t the main focus. Psychologically every win brings you forwards, big steps forwards, and if you can do it two times out of three it would be great.
“Beforehand we have a lot of work today. We have to bring everyone into the best physical shape, some need to recover, some need more training, and then we have to create an idea about how we will cause them some problems.”
This weekend’s opponent, Wolverhampton Wanderers, currently sit 11th in the table and Wagner explained why he hasn’t been surprised by them this season.
“Wolves aren’t a usual promoted team, they’re on a different level to the teams that got promoted in the past and we are one of them!
“They’ve invested money, but they’ve done it smart. They’ve played well, have a good idea and are consistent in their personnel.
“They got promoted by 10 points and were able to transfer their form and quality into the Premier League; they’ve done well so far.”
