MATTY DALY NAMED IN ENGLAND U17 EURO SQUAD

Young Terrier called up by England’s U17 for European Championships

- Daly gets another England U17 call-up
- Attacking midfielder already has five caps for England’s Under-17s
- The European Championships start on Friday 4 May 2018

Huddersfield Town Academy midfielder Matty Daly has been named in England’s Under-17s squad for this summer’s European Championships.

The 17 year-old has impressed for the Young Lions since his first call-up in February 2018 by Head Coach Steve Cooper.

Matty now has five caps to his name after featuring in matches at the Algarve Cup and in friendlies against Brazil.

The youngster could now represent his country in the European Championships after being selected in the squad.

The tournament, which is being held in England, sees the host nation in Group A, alongside Italy, Switzerland and Israel.

The major youth competition will start on Friday 4 May 2018, with England facing Israel on that day. The match will take place at Chesterfield’s Proact Stadium, kicking off at 8pm.

The Young Lions’ second match of the season will take place at Walsall’s Bescot Stadium just three days later on Monday 7 May 2018 against Italy; 4pm kick-off.

England’s final group game of the campaign will take place at Rotherham United’s AESSEAL New York Stadium against Switzerland on Thursday 10 May, kicking off at 8pm.

The U17 European Championships Final will take place on Sunday 20 May 2018 at the AESSEAL New York Stadium; 7.15pm kick-off.

Matty, who hails from Stockport, joined Town’s Academy at Under-15 level and has since progressed into the Club’s Under-23s side.

During the 2017/18 season, the attacking midfielder has featured heavily for both the Club’s Academy sides. He scored six goals in 16 games for Leigh Bromby’s Under-18s and two goals in 14 games for Mark Hudson’s Under-23s.
