David Wagner used 21 players during the win over the French side, so the majority of the squad had a feel of what it was like to play again at the John Smith’s Stadium, ahead of the opener against Chelsea on Saturday 11 August 2018.
After an open first half - that contained a number of chances for both sides - the scores were level at the break. However, four minutes into the second period, Lyon took the lead.
Maxwel Cornet, who was slipped through Town’s defence line, rounded ‘keeper Ben Hamer and placed the ball into the empty net.
Centre-back Terence Kongolo equalised for the Terriers; he poked home Phil Billing’s flick at the back post after an Alex Pritchard corner.
Town’s attacking midfielder was involved again, this time ‘Pritch’ played a superb chipped pass to Laurent Depoitre in the area, who drew a superb save out of the ‘keeper before tapping in the rebound.
The Belgian striker sealed the win with just minutes remaining. ‘Lolo’ was fed through the back-line by Billing before rifling an effort into the roof of the net.
