Huddersfield Town Head Coach David Wagner expressed his delight at the way his Terriers performed after defeating French Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais 3-1 in the only home pre-season fixture.

The Head Coach was not only pleased with his side's application of necessary devastating quality, but the attitude and desire with which the players refused to let the Champions League participants settle on what was a beautiful evening in HD1.

As many would agree, Wagner discussed the fact that the encounter was enjoyable to say the least and followed by reiterating that the main benefit of proceedings was to get those all-important minutes and fitness into the legs ahead of the Chelsea opener on Saturday 11 August.

Individually, praise was shared amongst the strikers, particularly Laurent Depoitre, who took his goals expertly. The Head Coach reserved further praise for Philip Billing, as the Dane put in another good performance within this pre-season campaign.

It was confirmed that Adama Diakhaby, and the rest of the squad, came through injury-free; with absentees Juninho Bacuna, Jonas Lössl, Mathias Zanka and Erik Durm all expected to return to full training in the near future as well as playing a part in the upcoming training camp in Austria.

When speaking to HTTV, David Wagner commented:

"We're glad that we won; it's always good when you win, but in pre-season the main thing is that everybody is healthy and that you make further steps in the right direction; we've done that today.

"We saw that Lyon are a good Champions League side; they have unbelievable pace and quality. We pressed them, and we can take a lot of positives from this pre-season game.

"We really had to work and fight. We played with a real passion, desire and fighting spirit; it's what we are about. I wasn't worried about the result; yes, it's nice to win and carry on the winning mentality, but we showed the right signs as it's only two and half weeks before Chelsea.

"We have two absolutely top strikers; there is not a shadow of a doubt, and they are also friends off the pitch. They have the right spirit and attitude to do their jobs when they get used.

"Adama Diakhaby is a different profile who suits our game; he is very humble. Like Ramadan; he is different, he is physical, and he can beat his marker; it was nice for them both to play in-front of our fans tonight. They won't have a problem settling in to our group as we have top-class characters.”
