David happy with what he saw against Dynamo Dresden

Huddersfield Town Head Coach David Wagner was satisfied with what he saw from his players during tonight’s 0-0 pre-season friendly draw against Dynamo Dresden.

The Terriers could have easily won the game in the end, only for some errant finishing and good goalkeeping to deny them in the sun at the Stadion Am Sommerdamm.

“I’m happy. It was a great effort and everybody is healthy, which is always important in pre-season games,” David told #HTTV.

“They played under very difficult circumstances as it was really, really hot and the grass dried out early. The focused and concentrated very well and although everything wasn’t perfect, this isn’t the moment where it should be.

“For sure, everything I saw today was a step in the right direction.

“I think we had the biggest chances of the game through Hamid (Sabiri), Hef’s header and the shot from Scott Malone, as well as the rebound from Pritch (Alex Pritchard). Dresden had their moments as well and as everybody knows, results aren’t the big thing in pre-season. Despite this, I’m happy we kept a clean sheet.

“As I’ve said, it’s most important that everybody stays healthy and gets minutes in their legs, which happened today.”

Town’s next friendly action comes on Saturday in the Interwetten Cup in Essen, closely followed by a pre-season friendly at SV Darmstadt 98 on Sunday, and David indicated that a couple of players could see their first on-pitch minutes.

“We have two games on Saturday and Sunday where I hope we can give a lot of the players 90 minutes, with some of the other players getting some minutes. Ramadan Sobhi was back in training yesterday (Tuesday) and Aaron (Mooy) is back with us on Thursday.

“The others are in a good way. I have hope that either Danny Williams, Erik Durm or both can join the main training group either in Austria or the week after. They are close, but I think it’s very important that we are calm enough to give both the chance to be fit enough to do so.”
