Town striker happy to net winner against Bologna

- Steve Mounié happy with goal against Bologna
- Strike keen to show his quality in the air
- Benin international speaks of competition with Laurent Depoitre

“Put the ball high – I will do the rest!”

That was the comment from striker Steve Mounié after he netted a trademark header to secure a 2-1 pre-season win over Serie A side Bologna.

The Benin international towered above his opponents in powerful fashion to smash a header home with the last action of the game and told #HTTV that he was pleased to be able to show his ability on the evening.

“It’s one of my qualities, and the delivery was very nice as well from Chris Löwe. When the ball is high at the back post, I will show my quality to the opponent! I’ve said to my teammates – if they put the ball high, I will do the rest.”

The goal was the latest in a promising pre-season for the 23-year-old, who has come back in superb condition ahead of the 2018/19 Premier League campaign.

Together with Laurent Depoitre, Town has two strong options in attack and Steve says he’s up for the challenge of competing with one of his best friends for the starting berth.

“It’s a healthy competition! I’m very glad when he scores some goals because it helps the team and that helps me as well. I think he is glad when I score as well.

“There is no hate between us as we are friends; we go out to eat together and on holiday sometimes.

“I have no problem when ‘Lolo’ plays, but of course I am a competitor – I want to play and score some goals!”
