Young ‘keeper extends contract ahead of move to Sky Bet League 1 side

- Joel Coleman extends stay at Huddersfield Town until 2020
- 22-year-old joins Shrewsbury Town on loan for 2018/19 campaign
- Comments from Head Coach David Wagner

Joel Coleman has today signed a new contract with Huddersfield Town and joined Shrewsbury Town on loan for the 2018/19 season.

The 22-year-old, who joined the Terriers in June 2016 from Oldham Athletic, has made 14 appearances for the Club, including four cup appearances during the 2017/18 campaign.

Joel has now committed his future to the Club agreeing a new deal that’ll extend his stay until 2020. Town also has the option to extend his contract by another year.

The goalkeeper will now join up with Shrewsbury Town under the management of John Askey, who was appointed in June 2018.

Last season, Salop finished third in Sky Bet League 1 before being beaten in the Play-Off Final by Rotherham United in extra-time. The final was Shrewsbury Town’s second visit to Wembley during the 2017/18 campaign, as the Club was also beaten in the Checkatrade Trophy Final by Lincoln City.

Town Head Coach David Wagner commented:

“During his time with us, Joel has shown what a good, capable goalkeeper he is. When he has been brought into the team he has played well for us and I’m delighted that he’s extended his future with us.

“What is important now, is that he gets game time at a good level to help him develop. Joel has a lot of space to improve and he must continue to push himself, so he can reach his full potential.

“I have no doubt that Joel will do this, and we can’t wait to see how he’ll progress as a player during this period.”
