Defender joins Boro

- Martin Cranie departs HTAFC
- Defender has joined Middlesbrough on a permanent basis
- Comments from Head Coach David Wagner

Huddersfield Town defender Martin Cranie has today completed a permanent transfer to Sky Bet Championship outfit Middlesbrough.

The 31 year-old initially joined Town in July 2015 as a free agent after his previous contract at Yorkshire-rivals Barnsley had expired.

He made 64 appearances in total for the Terriers including 14 appearances over the course of the 2017/18 promotion-winning campaign.

Cranie made his Huddersfield Town debut in the opening game of the 2015/16 Sky Bet Championship season in a 2-0 defeat to Hull City.

The Yeovil-born defender has made three Premier League appearances for David Wagner’s side this season including two starts against Bournemouth and Arsenal.

Martin Cranie’s contract was set to expire at the end of the current season with the terms of his transfer to Middlesbrough remaining undisclosed.

Huddersfield Town Head Coach David Wagner commented:

“Given the recent arrival of Terence Kongolo and the return to fitness of both Michael Hefele and Jon Gorenc Stanković, Martin’s opportunities at the Club have become limited.

“Martin was a big part of the squad during the promotion winning season and this is a good opportunity for him to go and play regular football.

“Martin is a great guy and we would like to thank him for all his hard-work at the Club and we wish him well for the future.”
