Huddersfield Town Head Coach David Wagner admitted that his side deserved to lose to Liverpool after his side’s 3-0 defeat.

Wagner explained that the first goal is always important in games like these and felt like the first goal was unlucky because of the deflection.

Town’s Head Coach revealed the plan was to stay in the game before playing offensively and getting in the faces of the visitors, however, Salah’s penalty stopped that from being effective.

David Wagner admitted that all details need to go in Town’s favour to beat clubs like Liverpool and explained that these are the points in the season where everyone needs to stick together.

Following the defeat, Town’s Head Coach David Wagner commented:

“If you play against a team that has more quality than you, and there’s no doubt that this is Liverpool, then the important situations of the game have to go in your favour.

“I think for 25 minutes the players worked very good and really showed effort and commitment to the game plan.

“We looked very organised and limited them to chances. We had the best chance of the game from Laurent Depoitre, unfortunately, we didn’t use it and then we conceded such a deflection goal from 25 yards.

“These are the situations, where if you like to be successful against a team with more quality, that you have to get in your favour.

“This was the case today; we didn’t use the chance, we conceded a deflection goal and then we conceded a second one shortly before half-time, which we have to defend better for sure.

“In the second half it was then a mountain to climb. The players stayed in the game and when we then wanted to bring our offensively players in to go more in their face to really try to get something in the last 15 minutes, we conceded this penalty and were 3-0 down.

“Too many important things today went against us and then against a top quality side who was very focused tonight made it impossible to win.”
