Big plans at Huddersfield Town to celebrate the Chinese New Year

- Chinese Year of the Dog begins on 16 February 2018
- The Terriers will celebrate New Year at AFC Bournemouth game
- Huge firework display at PPG Canalside on 10 February

16 February 2018 will begin the latest ‘Year of the Dog’ in the Chinese calendar – and Huddersfield Town has big plans to celebrate!

Town, as the only football club in the world to be known as The Terriers, has joined forces with main club sponsor OPE Sports to create big plans to celebrate the upcoming New Year, which will centre around the Premier League game at home to AFC Bournemouth on 11 February 2018.

As part of the celebrations, Town will join with club partner Standard Fireworks to host a huge firework display at PPG Canalside on the evening of Saturday 10 February 2018 to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year! The event will begin at 5pm, with lots of fun for all the family ahead of the display.

Plans are also afoot to work alongside the University of Huddersfield and its community of Chinese students, which will be detailed in due course.

Huddersfield Town’s Commercial Director Sean Jarvis explained:

“Thanks to the exposure that the Club receives from being a part of the Premier League, alongside our proud history, Huddersfield Town is known worldwide as ‘The Terriers’.

“We’re all proud of the ‘Terriers Identity’ that David Wagner has created on the pitch and now we want to show the world what we’re like off the field of play too – and there’s no better way than this!

“Our main club sponsor, OPE Sports, has a strong presence in Asia and we’re excited and proud to work alongside them to celebrate the Chinese New Year during February.

“There will be lots of activity throughout the month, but particularly centred around the two main events; the Fireworks Display and the game against AFC Bournemouth on the weekend of 10 and 11 February.

"We’ll give more details as the weekend approaches, but I’m sure all our supporters will get in the spirit of things and enjoy the opportunity to celebrate a special date in the Chinese calendar.

“As the Year of the Dog approaches, we’ll show the world what ‘Terrier Spirit’ is all about!”
