Midfielder nominated for Danish award
- Philip Billing up for Danish Football award
- Young Dane nominated for Male Talent of the Year 2017
- Winner decided on Friday 2 March 2018
Huddersfield Town midfielder Philip Billing has been nominated for the annual Male Talent of the Year award for 2017, awarded by the Danish National Team (DBU).
There are three other nominees up for the award alongside Philip named as Mikkel Duelund (FC Midtjylland), Robert Skov (FC Copenhagen) and Mathias Jensen (FC Nordsjælland).
Having initially joined Town on a youth contract from Danish First Division side Esbjerg in 2013, Philip signed a professional contract that very same year, going on to make his First Team debut as a substitute in Town’s 2-0 loss to Leicester City in 2014.
The midfielder made 24 appearances in last season’s promotion winning campaign contributing two goals and one assist; including a late winner in a 1-0 win over Reading in February 2017.
Philip has made 10 Premier League appearances for David Wagner’s side this season and has also appeared for the Denmark U21 side on four occasions in their European Championship qualification group; his first of which came in a 3-0 win over the Faroe Islands in August.
The winner will be announced on Friday 2 March 2018 via the Official DBU Twitter account (@DBUfodbold) between 18.45 and 19.45.
The official verdict from the deciding jury is as follows:
“The big midfielder was promoted to the Premier League with his club, Huddersfield Town F.C. in the summer of 2017. The 21-year-old has quickly adapted to the level of PL and delivers great performances against some of the world's best players week after week. This has also meant that he has become an important part of the Danish U21 national team.”
Good luck Philip!
