Members of Huddersfield Town’s First Team squad delivered some early festive cheer to the children and their families in hospital on Wednesday 13 December 2018.

The players visited the Children’s Ward at the Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax in the hope of putting a smile on the children and chatting with their parents.

Club captain Tommy Smith was joined by Jonathan Hogg, Mathias Zanka, Terence Kongolo, Phil Billing, Ben Hamer, Laurent Depoitre, Elias Kachunga, Matty Daly and Ryan Schofield on the visit.

The players delivered bags full of presents to the children that included a selection of items from the Huddersfield Town Megastore.

Children were able to get autographs and pictures with their heroes, as the players tried to lift the spirits of everyone on the ward.

Huddersfield Town defender Mathias Zanka commented:

“It’s good to come here and show our faces, in the hope it brings a little bit of joy to a tough situation. Luckily there is a lot of smiles on the kids and it seems like everyone’s in a great spirit. We’re really happy to contribute just a little bit.

“You realize that football is such a small thing. There is so many other things in life and a lot more pressing matters than just kicking a ball around a field. The fact we can come here and make a tiny difference in these kids’ lives; seeing the parents how they light up seeing their kids forgetting about illness and hospitals.”
