Join Huddersfield Town for the Big Sleep Out 2019

- Big Sleep Out continued for a second consecutive season
- Initiative raising funds for charities supporting homelessness
- Take part in the Big Sleep Out on Friday 8 March and brave the outdoors

Huddersfield Town supporters, once again, have the unique opportunity to brave the outdoors for a night at the John Smith’s Stadium to tackle homelessness.

Following the success of the first ever Big Sleep Out, held in March 2018, the John Smith’s Stadium will open its doors to supporters and local dignitaries to raise money for causes supporting homeless people in our local community under the banner of the Town Foundation.

Participants will be tasked with braving the conditions by spending a night in one of the stands.

The challenge will take place on the evening of Friday 8 March 2019 into the morning of Saturday 9 March 2019, with Huddersfield Town hosting AFC Bournemouth later in the day.

Participants are asked to fundraise at least £100 per person to take part with 100% of funds raised will be used to support local homeless causes.

All running costs towards the event will be covered by Dean Hoyle, ensuring every penny raised makes a difference.

The Big Sleep Out in 2018, which saw over 150 people take part, raised a remarkable £55k for local causes, which benefitted them all dramatically and made a real impact in Huddersfield and the wider community. The money was distributed to the Huddersfield Mission, the Welcome Centre, Batley Care & Drop-in, One Big Family, Batley Foodbank, Dewsbury Baptist Church and Winter Warmers.

On launching the Big Sleep Out 2019, Town Foundation Trustee Janet Hoyle commented:

“After seeing the overwhelming support of the Huddersfield Town supporters, alongside the incredible impact the Big Sleep Out had on homelessness charities, it was an event we just had to do again.

“As a Foundation we want to make a real difference in the community and helping to tackle homelessness is something that we really care about.

“Over the past season we’ve worked as hard as we can with the Fans for Foodbanks initiative, the Mission Meal vouchers and the Big Sleep Out. Everyone can see the impact that these schemes are having on the community, however the problem still exists, therefore we encourage everyone to support this cause.

“Homelessness is a very complicated issue; it’s not exclusive to people out on the street; there are so many people in our community who ‘sofa-surf’ or live in inadequate housing.

“The Huddersfield Mission is one example of a safe place in the heart of Huddersfield and does some wonderful work at tackling the underlying causes behind homelessness. We’re proud to support their work, alongside other local causes that will be granted funds too, which we plan to do over the long-term.”

As the weather continues to get colder, Mission Meal vouchers are on sale from the Club’s retail outlets for just £3.50 each or three for £10.

Each voucher entitles the holder to a drink, a hot meal and a pudding in the welcoming atmosphere of the Mission Café, located on Lord Street in the Huddersfield town centre, and all money made from the vouchers will be given directly to the Huddersfield Mission.

The Town Foundation’s Head of Fundraising and Events, Julie Sheffield, commented:

“On top of the launch of the Big Sleep Out 2019, we’re delighted that Huddersfield Town and the Town Foundation can continue to support the vital work that the Huddersfield Mission undertakes through the sale of the Mission Meal vouchers.

“Huddersfield Town fans have shown their generosity again and again over the years and I’m sure they will seize this chance to continue to make a huge difference to the lives of those people that need help in our community.

“We want to make 2019’s Big Sleep Out, more successful than this year and would ask if any club partners or local businesses can support through Donations or Sponsorship, to please get in touch.”
