Great performance from Mark Hudson’s Young Terriers

- Huddersfield Town Under-19s defeat Morecambe
- Winning finish to the Central League Cup campaign for Town
- Olly Dyson, Dom Tear & Isaac Marriott score the goals

Huddersfield Town’s Under-19 side finished its Central League Cup campaign with aplomb on Tuesday afternoon, winning 3-0 at Morecambe’s Globe Arena.

Olly Dyson, Dom Tear and Isaac Marriott netted the goals to cap a good performance from Mark Hudson’s youngsters on the afternoon.

Town started the game in control of the ball, but it was the hosts that created the game’s first genuine chance on the quarter-hour mark when a Shrimps player sent a free header over following a free-kick delivery.

However, Hudson’s side started to create the chances thereafter.

Town’s first shot came through central midfielder Marriott, who fired a tame effort goalward after good work from right back Demeaco Duhaney.

Striker Micah Obiero was just beaten to a through-ball by the home goalkeeper barely a minute later.

A deflected shot from Dyson fell to left back Ben Jackson in the 20th minute, who had his own shot deflected wide for a corner.

Captain Scott High soon put Obiero through on goal, but the Morecambe goalkeeper once again denied him with a good block.

Finally, the breakthrough came in the 36th minute. Jackson put the ball across the face of goal and winger Dyson was on hand to fire hard and low into the bottom corner for his fourth of the season, and second in two games.

Town had chances to extend the lead before the interval. Dom Tear’s great run down the right resulted in a chance for Obiero, who was mere inches away from converting, before the goalkeeper denied attacking midfielder Aaron Rowe when he went clear.

Thankfully, Town converted the first chance created in the second-half. Winger Dom Tear span neatly on the edge of the box and fired impressively into the bottom corner just two minutes in for his third goal of the season.

The final goal of the game came in the 64th minute. Dyson was involved again, embarking upon a great run before seeing another shot saved by the custodian; the ball fell to Marriott, who converted the rebound from 18 yards out via a big ricochet.

Town goalkeeper Luke Mewitt’s only real save was from a routine shot from distance with 10 minutes left, with centre back Jake Barrett an impressive figure throughout the 90 minutes in central defence.

The Young Terriers still had two further chances to extend the lead. The goalkeeper denied the first, getting a toe to the ball after High tried to find Tear in space, with Dyson firing over from the resulting corner.

Highlights of the game will appear on #HTTV later this week!
