Talented full-back joins Academy as a free agent
- Huddersfield Town signs defender Demeaco Duhaney
- Right back is a free agent after leaving Manchester City
- 19-year-old capped by England at Under-20 level
The Huddersfield Town Academy has completed the signing of England Under-20 international Demeaco Duhaney.
The 19-year-old can sign for the Terriers outside the transfer window as a free agent, having departed previous club Manchester City at the end of last season.
Demeaco has agreed a deal that will run until June 2020. Town has an option to extend the contract by a further year.
Capped twice by the Three Lions at Under-20 level, Demeaco is a pacey and athletic defender who usually features at right back, although he has previously played at left back too.
From Fallowfield in Manchester, he joined the Manchester City Academy as a five-year-old and progressed through the ranks before signing a two-year scholarship in the summer of 2015.
He was a regular in the City side that reached the 2017 FA Youth Cup Final, whilst also playing consistently in the UEFA Youth League and in the Premier League 2 for City’s Under-23 side.
More recently, Demeaco joined up with Pep Guardiola's First Team squad during the pre-season tour of the United States in the summer of 2017, playing the final 18 minutes of a friendly against Spurs in Nashville.
His senior competitive debut soon followed as he started all three of City’s games in the Checkatrade Trophy, whilst he was also an unused substitute for a Carabao Cup game at Leicester City and a Champions League game at Shakhtar Donetsk.
Huddersfield Town’s Academy Manager Leigh Bromby commented:
“We’re delighted to welcome Demeaco to the Club today. He’s a very promising player and we’ve fought off a lot of interest to bring him to Huddersfield Town.
“Demeaco fits many of the characteristics that we look for in a full back in our ‘Terriers Identity’; he’s a superb athlete, he possesses great pace and quality and he’s a tenacious competitor.
“We’re really looking forward to him working under Mark Hudson as part of our Elite Development Team as he gets back up to speed.”
