Leigh Bromby’s Under-18 side were defeated by two goals in Wednesday Afternoon’s Professional Development League game against Leeds United at Thorp Arch.

Town named two trialists in the starting line-up in the form of Kit Elliott and goalkeeper Gabriel Rosario. Elliott is a striker who had formerly played for Crystal Palace whilst Rosario is an American goalkeeper currently on trial from Reading.

The first goal of the game came within the opening quarter of an hour following some good pressing from the host. Rosario’s initial ball out to Tom Bamford was intercepted by Theo Hudson as the forward ran through on goal and coolly slotted the ball home.

Town had a chance to draw level just four minutes later from a free-kick 25-yards from goal. Aaron Rowe stepped up and saw his low powerful effort blocked on its route to goal by a defender.

Following the frantic start, the game settled down and saw little noteworthy action up until five minutes before the break, as Leeds’ opening goalscorer Hudson went close again.

An overlapping run from the Leeds right-back saw him fire a cross towards the far post, but an off-balance Theo Hudson couldn't double his sides lead as he put his effort wide of the mark.

Bromby made two changes at the break introducing Darnell Mintus and Josh Austerfield, with the system changing to a 3-5-2 with Rowe and Spratt moving into the wing-back slots and Mintus joining Elliott in attack.

The Young Terriers improved after the break and created their best chance of the game just after the hour mark. Matty Daly collected the ball in midfield and played a lobbed through-ball into the path of the overlapping Harry Spratt. Spratt ran to the byline and crossed the ball to Kit Elliott at the back post, but he could only put his header wide of the mark.

Leeds bounced back and had a chance just three minutes later as Robbie Cotts cut inside from the left and fired a powerful effort just wide of Rosario’s near post.

Jake Barrett – who was operating on the right of the back 3 – was causing Leeds issues powerfully driving out of defence with the ball and it was he who created the next good chance for Town.

The new recruit from Manchester United went on a mazy run taking on multiple players before arriving at the edge of the area. Barrett cut the ball back to Ausetrfield who couldn’t draw the game level as he put his effort wide of the mark.

Town’s efforts to get back into the game were undone around the 75-minute mark as Leeds got their second. Leeds’ number-ten Bobby Kamwa cut inside from the left and sent a curling right-footed effort from range that nestled in the far corner to secure all three points for Leeds.
