Huddersfield Town welcomed 15 new Academy scholars to the Club on Monday evening in preparation for the start of the 2018/19 season.
The youngsters will officially begin their scholarships at the beginning of next season but were welcomed to PPG Canalside for their first official induction and to sign their contracts by Academy Manager Leigh Bromby and his staff.
With the Academy moving age groups to Under-19s and Under-17s for the forthcoming campaign, this year’s intake of first-year scholars is slightly larger than in previous seasons.
These players will feature in a bespoke games programme consisting of the EPPP’s Category 3 fixtures against Under-18 sides, supplemented fixtures and tournaments arranged by the Club.
Academy Manager Leigh Bromby told htafc.com:
“The Academy was delighted to welcome the new scholars and their families to the training ground on Monday evening and give them an insight on what to expect when they arrive here in the summer.
“There’s obviously a focus on football and we gave them an introduction on that, but we also want the players to understand how important the educational element of their scholarship is. They’re coming here to learn.
“Every scholar should be proud of what they’ve achieved to reach this stage but as I told them last night, the hard work starts now!”
On the plan for the new Under-17 squad, Leigh added:
“We still plan to recruit a few more players into this group before the start of the 2018/19 season.
“The new-look Academy will constantly set challenges for these players to overcome; we believe that’s how you learn and improve.
“These players will play against older teams and will have to learn to overcome the physical edge that they will have, which will put the emphasis back on skills. I’m sure results will be mixed, but they will become better footballers for the experience.”
