16 October 2017

U23s defeated at Hull

- Huddersfield Town’s Under-23s lost to Hull City
- Frankie Bunn’s side defeated 3-2
- Olly Dyson & Micah Obiero on-target for Town with Jackson Irvine (x2) & Greg Olley for Hull

Huddersfield Town Under-23s travelled to North Ferriby’s EON Visual Media Stadium to face Hull City for the next instalment of their Professional Development League Campaign. This was the Under-23s first game in just over two weeks since they secured a 3-1 victory in their last outing over Crewe Alexandra at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Frankie Bunn was able to welcome back Cedwyn Scott to the side for his first start of the campaign. Cedwyn was one of four changes to the last Under-23 side as Ryan Schofield, Dylan Cogill and Denilson Carvalho were all also introduced into the side. The squad also included two 16-year-olds in Micah Obiero and Jordan Thomas.

Town went a goal down in the 24th minute as Hull City’s summer recruit Jackson Irvine got on the scoresheet for Jon Beale’s side. It wouldn’t get any better for Town as Greg Olley doubled their lead in the 34th minute to send Frankie Bunn’s side into the break at a two-goal deficit.

Jack Boyle was introduced in place of Cedwyn Scott early in the second-half as ‘The Young Terriers’ sought a way back into the game. Mason O’Malley then replaced Romoney Crichlow-Noble with just under 20 minutes to go.

Olly Dyson pulled one back with around 10minutes remaining as he converted from close range before 16-year-old Micah Obiero got Town on level terms two minutes later smashing the ball into the roof of the net.

Despite all the hard-work, Town were quickly undone as Jackson Irvine grabbed his second-goal of the game restoring Hull’s lead in the process, condemning Town to defeat despite a spirited two-goal comeback.

Town’s Starting Line-Up (4-2-3-1):
Ryan Schofield, Romoney Crichlow-Noble, Rarmani Edmonds-Green (Mason O’Malley, 70’), Dylan Cogill, Jordan Thomas; Isaac Marriott (Micah Obiero, 60'), Regan Booty; Lewis O’Brien, Olly Dyson, Denilson Carvalho; Cedwyn Scott (Jack Boyle, 55’)
