Head Coach David Wagner revealed to the press that Martin Cranie will start for Huddersfield Town against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday if nothing extraordinary happens leading up to the match.

Martin Cranie is set to make his first Premier League start since 2007 when he appeared for Portsmouth against Manchester United.

So far, this season the defender has made two appearances for the Club, starting in the 1-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace and coming off the bench in the Terriers’ 1-0 win over WBA in the Premier League after Christopher Schindler’s red card.

When speaking to the press about the 31 year-old replacing the suspended Christopher Schindler, David Wagner commented:

“Christopher Schindler is a stand-out player for us and has shown unbelievable form in the Premier League so far, but Martin Cranie has shown when he came in against West Brom that he’s capable to help us in the Premier League.

“Now, if nothing extraordinary happens, he will start on Saturday together with Zanka in the centre back position.

“I have every trust and belief in him; he’s a very reliable player, that’s what he’s shown me over the last two years.

“I’m happy for him, that he is able to show all his qualities in the Premier League and we will give him all the help he needs so that he can show his best performance, which he needs, and we need to be successful on Saturday.”

Town’s Head Coach then went into details regarding the fitness and availability of the seven First Team players who went away on international duty, whilst also giving the latest update on Town’s injured players – including Kasey Palmer.
