SCHOFIELD IN ENGLAND’S TOULON TOURNAMENT SQUAD

16 May 2017

Academy goalkeeper receives latest Three Lions summons

- Ryan Schofield called up by England's Under-20s
- Academy goalkeeper in the squad for the Toulon Tournament
- Huddersfield native capped once for England U18s

Huddersfield Town Academy goalkeeper Ryan Schofield has been named in England’s squad for the prestigious Toulon Tournament during late May and early June.

The 'Festival International Espoirs' takes place in Southern France on 29 May 2017 and has been one of the premier competitions for Under-20 sides, but this will be the first to feature an expanded 12 international teams in its 45 years.

England won the 2016 competition with a squad including Kasey Palmer and former loanee Ben Chilwell.

With England’s Under-21s playing in the European finals in June and the Under-20 side playing in the FIFA World Cup in South Korea, Head Coach Neil Dewsnip will take a young squad to the tournament this summer – including Town stopper Ryan, 17.

England has been named in Group A and will play three games to try and qualify for the semi-finals:

29 May: England v Angola, Stade De Lattre-de-Tassigny Aubagne; 7.30pm
1 June, Cuba v England, Stade D’Honneur Marcel Roustan Salon De Provence, 7.30pm
4 June: Japan v England, Stade De Lattre-de-Tassigny Aubagne, 3pm

Group B includes Bahrain, Ivory Coast, France and Wales, whilst Group C features Brazil, Indonesia, Czech Republic and Scotland.

The first placed teams from each group will progress to semi-finals on 8 June, alongside one runner-up. The final is scheduled for 10 June.

Ryan has one cap for the England Under-18 side, keeping a clean sheet in a 4-0 win over host nation Qatar in March 2017.

More recently, in his first ever loan spell in senior football, he made six starts for Vanarama National League North club FC United of Manchester, helping the team win the Manchester Premier Cup in the process.

He also signed a new professional contract at the Club last month, committing his future to Town until 2019.
