Huddersfield Town’s Under-18s side was beaten 6-2 by Sheffield Wednesday in the Professional Development League at Middlewood Road.

Despite the final score, Leigh Bromby’s youngsters got off to a good start and should’ve taken the lead after seven minutes. Denilson Carvalho rounded the Wednesday ‘keeper but a tracking defender cleared his shot off the line.

The major turning point in the game happened in the 20th minute when Town goalkeeper Owen Brooke was sent off for bringing down a striker in the area. Substitute Sam Kelly was brought on but he couldn’t keep Hunt’s resulting spot kick out of the net.

Brooke’s dismissal saw a change in shape for Town, who trialled a three at the back system, however on the half an hour mark it was 2-0 after Williams head home from close range.

Just before half-time in the 41st minute young striker George Danaher pulled a goal back for Leigh Bromby’s side, as his shot crept into the bottom corner.

The hosts started the second half the strongest and restored their two goal lead in the 53rd minute; Hornsby squeezed a shot past Kelly at the near post.

The early goal seemed to spur on Wednesday, who went on to score another two goals in the space of five minutes. Williams scored his second of the game with another header in the 61st minute before Lonchar placed the ball past Town’s substitute keeper.

In the 80th minute, Town pulled another goal back from the penalty spot. Carvalho’s cross was handled in the area before Cedwyn Scott coolly put away the penalty.

However, just a minute later Wednesday restored its four goal lead. Sam Kelly did well to stop an initial effort on goal but the rebound fell to Swaine who tapped in.

Action from the game will appear on #HTTV this coming week.
