Huddersfield Town forward Elias Kachunga has today received his first call-up to the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s national football team for an upcoming international friendly.

The DR Congo will play an international friendly against Kenya in Nairobi on 26 March 2017, with Kachunga selected in the final squad for the game.

Although the 24 year-old was born in Germany, he is eligible to represent the DRC as his father, Innocent, hails from the Congolese city of Goma.

This is his first official international summons at any level for DR Congo.

Led by Head Coach Florent Ibengé, the Leopards recently reached the quarter-final stage of the 2017 African Cup of Nations before being knocked out by Ghana.

Elias joined the Terriers on loan from Bundesliga side FC Ingolstadt 04 in the summer transfer window and is currently Town’s top scorer for the season with 11 goals in 38 starts and one substitute appearance, playing off the right side of the attacking midfield three.

‘Kache’ today spoke of his delight at his first DR Congo call-up – and previewed Friday night’s game at Bristol City – with #HTTV below.
