ASSIST FOR AARON AS SOCCEROOS DRAW WITH IRAQ

23 March 2017

22nd cap for the Man City loanee

- Aaron Mooy earns 22nd Australia cap
- Midfielder gets assist in 1-1 draw vs Iraq
- Another possible game on Tuesday vs UAE

Huddersfield Town midfielder Aaron Mooy grabbed an assist for Australia today, but couldn’t help his national side record an important win against Iraq.

The Manchester City loanee made his 22nd senior appearance for his country in the 2018 World Cup qualifying game held in Tehran, Iran, and setup the first goal of the game. His 42nd minute corner was delivered perfectly onto the head of FC Ingolstadt 04 striker Matthew Leckie to give the Socceroos a half-time lead.

Unfortunately for Aaron and his teammates, the hosts equalised with around 15 minutes remaining at the PAS Stadium as the game ended 1-1.

The draw keeps the Socceroos in the running in AFC qualification Group B after six games, level on points with Saudi Arabia and Japan before the two play each other this afternoon. The top two sides from the group qualify for the World Cup in Russia.

Aaron and the Australia side will be back in action on Tuesday, when they host the United Arab Emirates in Sydney.
