Huddersfield Town midfielder Aaron Mooy has been called up to the latest Australia squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers in March 2017.

The Caltex Socceroos will face both Iraq and UAE in its next matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup final qualifying stage.

Mooy has been named in Head Coach Ange Postecoglou’s 30 man squad, which will face Iraq on Thursday 23 March in Tehran, Iran at the PAS Stadium, 4.30pm kick-off (1pm local time) and United Arab Emirates on Tuesday 28 March at the Allianz Stadium in Sydney, 8pm kick-off (9am kick-off local time).

The Socceroos currently sit third in the AFC qualification Group B after five games, one point behind leaders Saudi Arabia. Opponents UAE and Iraq sits fourth and fifth respectively, the prior is only behind Australia on goal difference.

After all 10 group games have been completed, the top two sides will advance to the 2018 World Cup in Russia, with the third placed team heading to an inter-confederation Play-Off. 

Aaron has started all five games for Australia so far, taking his total number of caps to 21. Mooy started as the Australians beat Iraq in Perth before winning a second game in the UAE, the second round of games saw Mooy play in draws against Saudi Arabia and Japan, whilst he also started in the 1-1 draw with Thailand in the last group match.

With the Sky Bet Championship taking an international break at this time, Mooy will re-join the Terriers’ squad ahead of the Sky Bet Championship match against Burton Albion match on Saturday 1 April; click here to buy your tickets!
