- Comments from Head Coach David Wagner

Huddersfield Town midfielder Dean Whitehead has today signed a contract extension that will keep him at the Club until the end of the 2017/18 Premier League season.

‘Deano’ was named on Huddersfield Town’s retained list following the Club’s promotion to the top flight of English football and he has now put pen to paper, signing a new one year deal with David Wagner’s side.

The midfielder was Huddersfield Town’s first signing ahead of the 2015/16 Sky Bet Championship season, signing a two year contract with the Club after he left Middlesbrough.

He has since gone on to make 56 appearances for the Club in all competitions; starting in 46 of them.

During Town’s 2016/17 Sky Bet Championship campaign, Dean appeared 20 times for the Club and was an influential figure in the dressing room.

Huddersfield Town’s Head Coach David Wagner commented:

“After the Play-Off Final I had an honest and open conversation with Dean about the Premier League and his role in our team.

“We shared our thoughts on what we both expect from the upcoming season and agreed that even if he plays less for us, he is still a very important part of the team and our dressing room.

“I am very happy that he will be at this club for a further season; he is a true professional and a really good character.”
