Huddersfield Town’s Under-23s were beaten 3-1 by Professional Development League leader Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 at PPG Canalside on Sunday afternoon.

It was the visitors that got off to a better start and took the lead after just nine minutes. A Sheffield Wednesday striker got in front of Danny Kane and head in a cross from the right-hand side.

Frankie Bunn’s youngster grew into the game and should’ve been level 15 minutes later. Jack Boyle picked out Olly Dyson in the box, but he put his shot straight at the ‘keeper from just eight yards out.

Town continued to create chances, as the ball fell to Jack Boyle from a swift counter attack. The attacking midfielder beat two before his left footed shot flew over from the edge of the area.

Just before half-time, Lewis O’Brien had a good chance to equalise. Olly Dyson picked out the midfielder in the area after some good work on the left, but O’Brien miscued his shot and the away side cleared.

The young Terriers began the first half as they ended the last and put the visitors on the back foot. Denilson Carvalho forced the Wednesday ‘keeper into a save after a good cut back from Jacob Hanson.

However, moments later Wednesday doubled its lead. In the 58th minute, the Owls caught Town on the break and made it 2-0 against the run of play.

In the 78th minute, Frankie Bunn’s side was back in the game. Carvalho hit the back of the net after an excellent cut back from O’Brien.

The goal spurred on the youngsters as they continued to push for an equaliser. This time Hanson cut the ball back to Tear, who’s shot was saved by the ‘keeper’s feet before the defence scrambled clear.

With just five minutes to play the away side restored its two goal advantage with the final chance of the match after another swift counter attack.
